ENGINE TUNING – OLD SCHOOL TUNING
In the old day’s engine tuning was achieved by fitting special carburettors, re-boring and fitting large valves cylinder heads. We still offer these services for age appropriate vehicles. We also supply and fit new build specialist engines. For example, a 427cu 7.0 Ford engine suitable for a 1967 Mustang can be built to achieve over 600 hp.
Today engine tuning is more commonly achieved by remapping the tune of the ECU (Engine Control Unit). It is adjusted to yield optimal performance, to increase an engine’s power output, economy, or durability. These goals may be mutually exclusive, and an engine may be detuned with respect to output (work) in exchange for a better economy or longer engine life due to lessened stress on engine components. Often a data recorder is fitted to allow accurate measurement of changes in the performance of the engine.
We can offer quality remapping for a wide range of vehicles. Please ask for details.
For vehicles fitted with an OEM supercharger there are various easy wants to upgrade the boost offered by the Supercharger. These are commonly achieved by change the diameter of the pulleys and the type of Supercharger belt. For example, a Range Rover 5.0 V8 factory engine produces around 500 hp. By changing the pulley and belt as well as an ECU remap increases of up to 80 hp are achievable at a reasonable cost.
